St. Kitts & Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis – formally known as Saint Christopher and Nevis – is a two-island state in the Eastern Caribbean. This island state was home to the first British and French colonies in the Caribbean, and thus has been titled “The Mother Colony of the West Indies.” It boasts a population of 55,000 people, and its currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD).

St. Kitts is covered in black and gray sand beaches, while sister island Nevis is nearly unspoiled in its natural splendor. Coral reefs surround the islands, beckoning swimmers and snorkelers from all over the Caribbean. The country’s two international airports help travelers visit this beautiful destination. The tropic islands are also a prime location for bird watching, with more than 170 species of birds existing there.

The capital city of Basseterre is home to one of the most prominent medical schools in the Caribbean: the University of Medicine and Health Sciences. UMHS also has regional offices throughout the United States. The capital also has one of the most tragic histories of any Caribbean capital, destroyed many times by colonial wars, fire, earthquakes, floods, riots, and hurricanes. Despite all of this, it has been resilient and has a considerable number of well-restored buildings that still exist downtown.

While tourism and agriculture have always been the main industries in this island state, the St Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment program founded in 1984 has also become another pillar in the economy in recent years. It is the oldest program of its kind and one of the most reputable citizenship by investment programs in the world.

The capital city Basseterre is also home to the headquarters of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, as well as the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange, which lists securities for companies and corporations in the region. This showcases St. Kitts as a great place for foreign investors.
